James Scriven

Mr. James P. Scriven has been Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Inter-American Investment Corporation since November 1, 2015. Mr. Scriven oversees the implementation of the IIC’s expanded mandate under a renewed vision for private sector operations endorsed by shareholders. He oversees the management of IFC’s financial and non-financial risk in its operations and provides corporate leadership on environmental, social, and governance issues. He had been Vice President, Corporate Risk and Sustainability at International Finance Corporation since 2014. He is a proven leader with experience that ranged from the complexities of mortgage banking in Argentina to the development of new financial services for the private sector in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. He has a record of fostering innovative approaches to meet the fast-changing demands of emerging markets. From 2005 to 2010, he served as Director for Global Financial Markets for Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin American and the Caribbean, and Manager of Latin America and the Caribbean. He was a member of IFC’s Management Team. Mr. Scriven has been with IFC since 2002 and has held a number of positions in IFC’s regional office in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and IFC’s Headquarters in Washington DC. He was responsible for the restructuring of IFC’s financial sector investments in Argentina, building IFC’s Financial Sector business in Latin America, Caribbean, and Sub-Saharan Africa regions, and most recently, leading the rapid expansion of IFC’s Financial Sector investments globally. He served as a Global Director for Financial Markets at International Finance Corporation from 2007 to 2014. He oversaw the development of a robust, innovative and diversified program in microfinance, SME banking, housing, insurance, and private equity funds that have delivered strong development and financial returns for IFC’s financial markets investments. Prior to joining IFC, Mr. Scriven served as the Chief Financial Officer of Banco Hipotecario S.A. and the Chief Executive Officer of BACS. He holds a Master’s degree in Finance from Universidad del CEMA in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
